Engineered Floating Floor

Floating or Engineered flooring has become the affordable “go-to” timber floor. They are unique in their construction, being 100% timber on top. The thickness of timber on top (the lamella) ranges from a 6 mm timber top, down to a 0.6 mm. Most floating floors are manufactured with a unique locking system.  This fits together to ensure that your timber floor will be a beautiful part of your home for many years to come.

They are designed to withstand a lot – children, animals & sliding furniture. Floating floors have a high-quality lacquer finish and come in a range of finishes from Matt to Gloss.

Engineered Parquetry

Engineered Herringbone Parquetry

Engineered Floating Flooring in a Herringbone pattern and Chevron pattern have recently become available. These floors like the plank engineered or floating timber floors come pre-finished in a variety of stains. At this stage, they only come in a matte finish. They have 7-10 layers of lacquer applied prior to being UV cured for the longevity of your floor. These are available to view in our showroom.

Engineered Parquetry has a 3 mm – 6 mm natural solid timber layer (depending brand). The timber used is usually European Oak, however, some companies are now making engineered parquetry in Australian Timbers. There are more colours and species available in our showroom.

Frequently asked questions about engineered timber floors

Are floating floors affordable?

There is no short answer to that. Naturally, it depends on your budget for flooring. They are more affordable than solid timber floors. The main reason for this is that they come pre-finished, therefore we do not have to do any sanding or coating after the floor has been laid.

Are there different price ranges and budget options?

Yes. We have engineered timber floors for almost every budget. We can talk you through your options at the showroom

Do floating floors come pre-finished?

Yes, all our engineered & floating timber floors are pre-finished. They are finished with 7 to 13 layers of lacquer and are UV cured for longevity.

Are engineered timber floors hard-wearing?

Yes, they are designed for “living” on. As they have 7 to 13 layers of lacquer which has been UV cured. The pre-finished floating timber floors are designed for normal family living.

How long to engineered or floating floors last?

Your engineered timber floor can last from 25 years to a lifetime.

As every type of floor, it is about how you look after them. We recommend removing grit and grime on a regular basis, not using too much water and following some simple care and maintenance procedures.

Do I need to sand & polish my engineered timber floor?

Yes – eventually.

We recommend that after approximately 7 – 10 years you contact PFC to inspect your floor. Usually, around this time we recommend a topcoat. This means that the floor is lightly buffed and 1 coat of polish (coating) is applied. This will last another 5 – 10 years before we may be required to fully sand and apply 2-3 coats of polish. You then repeat this process.

It may seem complicated but broken down it will be 14 – 20 years before you have to do any major work on your floor.

Do you have engineered parquetry flooring?

Yes, we do. In herringbone and in chevron patterns. See below for further information and pictures.

Timber is one of the world’s few truly renewable resources. The natural insulation properties of timber lock out winter’s cold and summer’s heat. It is an excellent option for those with allergies because timber floors do not harbour dust mites and other allergens.  Floating Floors are an excellent option to benefit from these things.

We also have cork floating floors. Floating cork floors are a great environmentally friendly option. You can view our range of floating cork floor finishes in our Adelaide showroom.
