Cork has antimicrobial properties it contains a waxy substance called suberin (an inert impermeable waxy substance present in the cell walls of cork tissue).

Which is fantastic if you are considering putting in a cork floor and have allergies or young children.

It naturally repels small vermin and insects. This makes cork floors resistant to the growth and colonization of these organisms, and can, therefore, help to promote a healthy environment.
